The Weaverville Professional Firefighters Association will be holding a celebrity golf tournament on Monday July 26th at Reems Creek Golf Club.The event will be preceeded by a meet and greet reception on July 25th at the Fireplace Restaurant. Each team that enters will be paired with a current or former professional athlete for their round of golf. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Mountain Area Red Cross and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. John Lackey Jr. Memorial

Members of the community are invited to come celebrate the life of John R. Lackey, Jr. with his family and former band students. Mr. Lackey, a well-respected and much loved band director at EnkaHigh School and Middle School from 1967 to 1995, passed away on January 24, 2010. A memorial celebration will be held in his honor on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the EnkaMiddle School stadium. A drop-in reunion will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm for people to reconnect and share their memories of Mr. Lackey. At 3:00 pm, the Land of the Sky Symphonic Band will be performing a short concert, followed by a memorial service.
